Galerie Christophe Gaillard

Founded in 2007 rue de Thorigny, Paris, the gallery moved in October 2015, to its new location at 5 rue Chapon, with two distinct spaces : FRONT SPACE and MAIN SPACE.

Though it shouldn’t be seen as one of its guidelines, the Galerie Christophe Gaillard is proud to be working with many women artists. The gallery can be seen as a trajectory space for a new generation of emerging artists (Julien Des Monstiers, Rachel de Joode, Hannah Whitaker, Letha Wilson). It also represents great figures of contemporary art (Hélène Delprat, Katarzyna Kozyra). Futhermore, working with the agreement of the estate, the gallery aims at enhancing the pertinence of recognized artists from the 60s to the 90s like Tetsumi Kudo, Michel Journiac and Daniel Pommereulle.

The gallery opens up to the international market by developing a network of partner galleries and by taking part in many art fairs such as Art Basel, Art Basel Miami, Artissima, FIAC, Artbrussels, Paris Photo, Independent New York, Frieze Masters.

About the Artwork

In 1987, after a radically geometric period, Georges Noël returned to free and automatic writing.
The motifs of grids and naval battles intermingle with the signs and graffiti that he energetically traces on the canvas.
Space became more ordered and enlarged, and the organic matter of his painting breathed.

It was also during this period that the painter made his first trip to Japan. His visit to Zen gardens rekindled his
his interest in Japanese art and inspired a major series of paintings.

This masterpiece is emblematic of the development of Georges Noël’s work. Its title, “Secret Garden”,
refers to the artist’s primary sources of inspiration, as he invents a pictorial language from which spontaneously spring the signs of intimacy.
signs of the intimate and the unconscious as well as of the cosmos.

Dahl, Thomas Fearnley, Skovgaard and Peder Balke), Scandinavian Symbolism (Hammershøi, Ilsted, Holsøe, LA, Ring, Bertha Wegmann, Christian Krohg) and Dutch painting (e.g. Jan Weissenbruch, J.A. Knip and Willem Witsen).

The gallery publishes a catalogue of new acquisitions every two years and also a monthly newsletter. Amongst our customers, we count international museums and renowned private collections, both in Europe and in the US. We also regularly lend works to international museums for exhibitions.
