Xavier Eeckhout - Galerie

A specialist in animal sculpture from 1880 to 1950, Xavier Eeckhout presents works by the great masters of the early 20th century, including Pompon, Bugatti and Sandoz, as well as Artus, Le Bourgeois, Lémar, Petersen, Guyot and Godchaux, for whom he has written the catalogue raisonné.

In his gallery in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, he regularly inaugurates thematic exhibitions, alongside the international fairs in which he has participated for over ten years.

History of the model

According to a letter of subscription dated 27 October 1909, A.-A. Hébrard wrote:

« C’est cette œuvre qui cette année fera l’objet de l’édition, limitée à 50 épreuves, en bronze à cire perdue, que j’ai l’habitude de faire une fois par an pour mes clients. Cette sculpture est la réplique du bronze du même artiste qui se trouve au musée du Luxembourg. ».

The editions numbered 1 to 25 were cast in 1909 ; numbered 26 to 39 between 1911 and 1914 ; numbered 40 to 51 between 1919 and 1934.
