The author: Stéphane Guégan
Historian, art critic, Scientific Advisor to the President of the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée de l’Orangerie, Stéphane Guégan is the author of several books on 19th and 20th century painting and literature, from French Romanticism to Picasso.
About the book, “Caillebotte. Peintre des extrêmes” Stéphane Guégan says:
“”My book is aimed at those who discover the work without preparation, or seek to approach in a different way an artist on whom all sorts of reductive readings have recently fallen”.
Jean-Gabriel Peyre and Stéphane Guégan
The book: “Caillebotte. Painter of extremes”.
The art of Gustave Caillebotte, a great observer of Haussmann’s Paris, of amorous play, of yachting, of flowers and gardens, oscillates between the malaise of the 1880s and the euphoria of a certain impressionism.
This richly illustrated monograph reformulates the tension that hangs over the entire work of this artist who did not talk much about his painting.
This complete monograph on Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894), has been published by Éditions Hazan
